Faith in the Future

For over 35 years, Congregation B'nai Tikvah has been a center of Jewish life and learning for South Jersey. What began as the vision of 20 families has become home to more than 130 families today. We have celebrated many happy times together: The births of children and grandchildren, B'nai Mitzvah, weddings and holidays. We have supported one another through the diffcult times as well.

B'nai Tikvah is our Jewish Haven

It is here that we enhance our spirituality and strengthen our Jewish identity. Our Rabbis lead us in: Torah - Jewish Learning, Avodah, - Worship and Gemilut Hasadim - Acts of Loving Kindness. We are so fortunate to be a part of such a welcoming and loving community.

But with our success has come a great challenge. Space. We are bursting at the seams!

Our current building cannot accomodate the many programs and activities of our thriving organization. Our santuary doubles as a multi-purpose room. It is overcrowded on the High Holidays, without enough seating for all. We have too few classrooms; our religious school operates on split sessions.

Without a social hall, our life-cycle events, social events and fundraisers must be held elsewhere. Our numerous educational family programs are overcrowded and uncomfortable. The problem stands to worsen in the coming years as the population of our area increases and our membership grows.

Over the past several years we have investigated the possibility of expanding our current building. Extensive study has revealed that this is not financially feasible. However, a wonderful solution for us lies just around the corner in Washington Township. A building is for sale that can solve our space problems, and it is in move-in condition.

With the generosity of all of us, we can manage it financially

Our new home will have:

  • An inviting, spacious sanctuary that will accomodate everyone - even on the High Holidays
  • A Social Hall where we can celebrate B'nai Mitzvah and Weddings
  • Enough classroom space for our Religious School and Family and Adult Education programs
  • A Youth Lounge so our older children have a place to congregate and form lifelong Jewish friendships
  • A Library for both youth and adult books with an inviting space for study
  • Meeting spaces for Sisterhood, Men's Club, BBYO and other social activities
  • Office Space for our Rabbis and Administrative Staff, who would no longer have to work around boxes and clutter
  • A Kosher kitchen big enough to allow us to host Simchas and other events
  • A home large enough for us to welcome our Interfaith partners

Our new home will represent our proud Jewish presence in Southern New Jersey, that we can point to with pride, and to which we would be happy to invite new members.

We have worked hard and with dedication for more than three decades to make our synagogue the special place it is. We have grown from holding services in the basement of a Pizza Parlor to having our own building.

Let us now take the next step; To be true to our name, - Children of Hope.

By supporitng this capital campaign, the largest in the history of our synagogue, we are giving a great gift to ourselves, to our children and to our Jewish community. It is time to show our Faith in the Future of B'nai Tikvah. It is time to move forward.

Faith in the Future
"We came from a country where we could not practice religion and now can. It's important for us to belong to a synagogue ... when we see how the children participate in services, it's so exciting - we did not have this in Russia ... We want to see the synagogue grow so [the children] have room to learn and study."
