Shabbat services are held at B’nai Tikvah every week of the year. Friday evening services are generally at 8:00 PM and Saturday morning services generally begin at 9:30 AM. Occasionally changes in time are made due to a special event such as a Shabbat dinner following services, so please refer to the calendar to check for these programs.
Tot Shabbat
Tot Shabbat is held usually once a month at
7:00 pm. This special service provides insights into Jewish customs, traditions and the Torah portion. Knowledge of Shabbat and Judaism are learned through songs, dance, storytelling and role playing. Everyone shares something special that happened to them that week, learning to appreciate Shabbat as a time of reflection. From 7:30 pm until 8:00 pm refreshments are served, and the children and their families have a chance to socialize together. Everyone is always welcome to stay for the 8:00pm service as well.
Once or twice a year we run special Tot Shabbat dinners where the children and their families get to share a meal and learn Shabbat traditions surrounding the meal.
Please see the calendar for Tot Shabbat dates. Also, we mail flyers addressed to the children in 2nd grade and below each month, if they are on our mailing list. You can sign up using our contact form to have your children added to this list.
Family Services
This year we are beggining special Family Services once a month. The services will run from 7:30-8:30 p.m and include a lot of singing. Some songs and prayers will be taught during the service and we will read a story or have a short discussion/activity instead of a sermon. Watch here for more details soon.
Junior Congregation / Special Torah Study
Parents, particularly parents of young children, often find it difficult to participate in prayer and study on an adult level. To help solve this dilemma, once per month during the school year, we offer programming for adults and for kids of all ages at the same time. Those Shabbat mornings contain:
a) Junior congregation for religious school students
b) Free babysitting for younger children, and
c) a shortened adult service with an opportunity for extended Torah study.
We also hold services for Holidays throughout the year. Please check our calendar for times and information.
